No, it’s not Mother’s Day early. Although I like the special holidays we have for moms and dads, grandparents, bosses, secretaries, etc, I think it’s how we treat each other every day that really counts. These special days should be a celebration of what you already have with them. Healthy relationships take time and effort. We have to be willing to give a little so that we can all get along. Focus on the things that you have in common, skim over the things you don’t.
I love spending time with my mom. She’s an outdoorsy kinda gal. Her cooking is delicious and unique, and her sewing and crocheting abilities have allowed her to be creative inside her home as well. It always amazes me when she comes to my home, moves a few pictures, vases, or pieces of furniture around and suddenly the room is transformed. Her green thumb is remarkable to me. She writes funny but very sweet poems about her life and what she’s thinking about at the time. Most of all, she is affectionate. I love my mom!
She recently moved into the house next door to us. The yard immediately flourished, remember, I mentioned the green thumb. The girls love going over there, seems like she always has something going on. Kiki, my tree-climbing dog loves it too. Kiki not only looks high for rodents and birds, she also digs for moles, chases rabbits, and cautiously sniffs out skunks. So, while my mom is cleaning out brush, trimming trees, hauling limbs, digging up weeds, or tending her vegetable and flower gardens, Kiki darts back and forth, sniffing, digging, sneezing, and panting.
This is how we usually see my mom.

This is a squash from her garden.

Then one of the girls helped her get a little fixed up and we went inside for a few shots.

We’re back outside and she’s standing on the other side of her garden. Those are okra plants in front of her…yum!

Her front porch faces north, so we went there for some really soft light.

This is one of my favorites. The blue of her eyes almost match the blue of the walls.

Love creamy chocolate black and whites!

We’re still on the north side of the house, in the front yard.

We went down to the creek by the big trees. This is actually the tree that Kiki climbed.

And finally, a stroll by the Weeping Willow.

I can’t leave this post without showing you the beautiful sunflowers growing by her garden. They are so heavy now that they droop over facing the ground. I took these while they were still facing the sun.

One last picture. I took this a few weeks ago of my dad, in front of his favorite tree, the Magnolia.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” II Timothy 3:16, 17
